The Story of Flavours of Vietnam
Flavours of Vietnam is more than a restaurant. It is the result of a dream, a family’s courage, years of sacrifice, and a community that believed in something special.
Mina arrived in Australia in early 2006 with her mother, Kim, determined to build a better life and create new opportunities. Starting again in a new country came with many challenges, but Mina carried a dream she never gave up on.
For many years, Mina worked several jobs, continued developing her skills, and saved everything she could. There were long days, difficult moments, and times when the dream felt far away, but her determination never disappeared. With the love and support of her partner, Peter, and her mother, Kim, who stood beside her throughout the journey, that dream eventually became a reality.
In February 2019, Flavours of Vietnam opened in a small store on Macalister Street. What began as a humble family restaurant soon grew into something much greater. With the support of the Mackay community, the restaurant moved into a larger home on Nelson Street, expanded its team, introduced new offerings, and welcomed even more customers.
Every dish served carries a piece of Mina’s journey. It represents Kim’s influence, family traditions, Pete’s unwavering support, and the years of hard work that made it possible.
Mina and the entire Flavours of Vietnam family sincerely thank the Mackay community for the kindness, loyalty, encouragement, and support shown over the years. To every customer who has visited, ordered a meal, celebrated an occasion, recommended the restaurant, left a kind review, or returned again—you have helped turn a dream into a lasting reality.
